MOTHER MARY KEVIN KEARNEY RECEIVES AWARD

The President of the Republic of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has named Mother Mary Kevin Kearney, Foundress of the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi among the Gold Meladist during the 52 Independence celebration of the Uganda held on the 9th October 2014 at Kololo.

The Medal was received by Sr. Sr. Jane Frances Nakafeero the Vicaress and Sr. Salome Aguti, member of the General Council.  The Medal was awarded to Mother Kevin because of her contribution towards the development of the Country.

Mother Kevin is greatly remembered for her love of the vulnerable and marginalized persons in society.  She worked hard to raise the status of the woman and girl child.  Mother Kevin started many schools and hospitals.  She had special concern for the care of lepers who were neglected is society.  The spirit of Mother Kevin is still made manifest through the works of the Little Sisters and the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa.
